HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets were trailing Minnesota by 10 points early in the second quarter on Thursday night when a very unhappy Kevin McHale called a timeout hoping to help his team get on track. James Harden wasnt worried and told his coach as much. "He was fired up but I told him: Its OK. Were going to be all right," Harden said. And they were. Houston scored 17 straight points after that timeout, led by 10 from Harden, to take the lead and roll to an easy 129-106 win. "We werent playing very well," McHale said. "So I got into them a little bit and they responded." Harden had 28 points with eight assists, Donatas Motiejunas added a career-best 20 points and Chandler Parsons had 19 points for Houston. Houston never trailed after the 17-0 run and padded the advantage with another big run to start the third quarter. It was Houstons second straight game without Dwight Howard, who sat out with a strained left ankle. Omer Asik started in his place and filled in ably with a season-high-tying 12 points as the Rockets won for the seventh time in 10 games. "Obviously we want Dwight back as soon as possible," Parsons said. "But Omer is so good you dont miss much out there on the floor ... we have a real luxury having both of those guys down there." Kevin Love had 29 points and rookie Gorgui Dieng 22 points and 21 rebounds, which were both career-highs. He has had a double-double in each of his three starts, which have come in the last three games. "In the first quarter we came out pretty good," Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said. "Then they had that run on us and it really wasnt a game from that point on. We werent scoring at all and we werent getting back and they seemed to have their way." Ricky Rubio had five points, eight assists and two rebounds for Minnesota a night after posting his third career triple-double with 22 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds in a 123-122 overtime win at Dallas. "We came off an overtime game and we just didnt seem to have energy," Love said. "These are the dog days where youre trying to give everything youve got and sometimes its just not good enough." Houston led by 10 at halftime and opened the third quarter with a 16-7 spurt to extend the lead to 80-61 with about 8 1/2 minutes left in the quarter. Harden, who finished with six 3s, and Patrick Beverley both made 3-pointers during that run and Asik had seven points with a pair of dunks. Love hit a 3-pointer after that before Terrence Jones made four quick points to push the lead to 84-64. Luc Mbah a Moute went up for a dunk later in the quarter, but it was blocked by Asik, drawing oohs from the crowd when it happened live and again when it was replayed on the jumbotron. Asik finished with four blocks. Houston was up by 21 soon after that when the Timberwolves cut into the lead with an 8-0 run thanks to two 3-pointers by Love to make it 89-76. The Rockets led by 98-82 entering the fourth quarter. Jones had 10 points and Beverley had 14 as all five Rockets starters scored in double digits. "When we move the basketball like that, everyone is going to score," Harden said. "It gives each and every guy confidence to make that right pass and to shoot the basketball. So, when we play like that, its tough to beat us." The lead was 16 midway through the fourth quarter when the Rockets went on another run -- this one 8-3 -- to make it 118-97. Harden scored the last five points in that span before sitting down for the night. Minnesota got within five points late in the second quarter, but the Rockets used a 9-4 run, capped by another 3 from Harden, to end the half up 64-54. NOTES: Minnesota C Nikola Pekovic didnt play for the third straight game because of a sore right ankle. ... Houston Texans running back Arian Foster and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner and former A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel sat together in seats behind the Rockets bench. ... Dieng is the sixth player since the NBA began tracking starts in 1970 to have at least 20 points and 20 rebounds within his first three career starts. Marko Dano Jersey . Its the second straight year he has decided not to play as he cuts back his schedule. Stricker was replaced in the field by Ryo Ishikawa of Japan. Tyler Myers Jersey . So he and his Toronto FC teammates say they will have no problem getting up for their Amway Canadian Championship final against rival Montreal Impact, even if the result doesnt count toward Major League Soccer standings. http://www.hockeyjetsauthority.com/jack-roslovic-jets-jersey-c-25/. Lupul injured the hand in a fall at practice on Thursday. He will wear a cast for a minimum of 10 days before he can put a glove back on it and get some mobility back, said Carlyle, who added the winger wont go on the teams upcoming road trip. Nic Petan Jersey . Ghoulam has put pen to paper on a four and a half year deal, tying him to Napoli until 2018. The 22-year-old Algeria international, who played for France at Under 21 level, has made 87 league appearances in four seasons at Saint-Etienne. Laurie Boschman Jersey .ca NBA Power Rankings. Winners of 15 straight, with a healthy roster, the Spurs have overtaken the Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder for the number one ranking.CALGARY - Johnny Gaudreau was on full display in the third period for the Calgary Flames on Friday night. The dynamic 5-foot-9 rookie set up the tying goal, drew the penalty that led to the go-ahead power-play goal, then scored what would end up being the game winner as three goals in a span of just over four minutes powered Calgary to a 4-3 comeback win over the Nashville Predators.Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, Jiri Hudler got the rally started with the tying goal at 2:36. He converted a slick cross-crease pass from Markus Granlund, who got the puck to begin the sequence from Gaudreau. On his next shift, Gaudreau was tripped while hustling after the puck in the offensive zone by Mattias Ekholm. On the power play, TJ Brodies pass deflected in off Predators defenceman Shea Weber to give the Flames the lead at 4:23.The eventual game-winner came when Gaudreau darted down the left wing, showed good strength in fending off the stick check of Craig Smith, then whipped a shot from a bad angle that beat Pekka Rinne over his shoulder. It seems like the pucks on a string for him lately, not just this game but the past few. Its really nice to see, said Flames captain Mark Giordano. Tonight, he was a game changer. Theres nothing else to say. He really changed the game for us.After beginning the season with no points in his first give games, a stretch that culminated in him being a healthy scratch, Gaudreau has two goals and four assists in his last six games.I know every game Im feeling more comfortable and it helps when youre playing with guys like Hudler, Gaudreau said. Im just real fortunate to get to play with a lot of skilled guys. Thats just going to make me a better player when Im playing with great players like that.Contrary to earlier in the season when he appeared more cautious, now when Gaudreau gets the puck he attacks the opposing defenceman. In the first period, he completely turned Anton Volchenkov inside out on an individual rush.Im feeling a lot better in the defensive zone every game and I think thats just going to help me have more time in the offensive zone and create more offence during the game, Gaudreau said.Sean Monahan also scored for Calgary (6-4-2). The Flames finish 2-1-2 on a five-game homestand. They begin a five-game road trip Sunday night in Montreal.James Neal paced the offence for Nashville (6-2-2) with two goals — his sixth and seventh of the season. Smith also scored. The Predators have split the opening two games of a sseason-long six-game road trip, which continues Sunday in Vancouver.ddddddddddddIn this league, if a team hangs around long enough and gets a few bounces, theyre right back in it and gives themselves some life. Its just that six minutes in that third period where they got some life and we just couldnt get it back, said Neal. Other than that, I liked the way we play on the road and its a tough loss when you feel like you deserve better.Neal made it a one-goal game again at 4-3 with a power-play goal at 10:47, but that was all Jonas Hiller would give the Predators.Hiller finished the night with 28 saves to improve to 3-2-1 on the season. The veteran goalie was making his second straight start for Calgary, which was significant in the fact that until Friday, coach Bob Hartley had been rotating Hiller and Karri Ramo.In giving up a season-high four goals on 30 shots, Rinne saw his record fall to 6-2-1.Our guys played hard tonight. They were constantly on the attack, said Predators coach Peter Laviolette. We werent able to pull away when it was 2-1. I think we continued to press, it seemed like we had a lot of zone time. We just couldnt find the net one that would help us pull away. The banged up Flames won despite playing without three of their top centres in Mikael Backlund (abdominal strain), Matt Stajan (knee) and Joe Colborne (upper body). They joined Mason Raymond (shoulder), who is also sidelined. My job is to make our players believers and the longer and the better we play and we collect points and suddenly every morning we wake up and were in 6th place, were in 5th place, were in 7th place, well, were there, and the marathon has just started, said Hartley. I know everyone in the hockey world is waiting for us to trip but I have faith in our guys. Were going to succeed because were hard workers, were good people.Notes: Brodies four goals matches his career-high... Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held for ex-Stampeder and prominent businessman John Forzani. The 67-year-old Calgary native passed away from a heart attack... The game marked the NHL debut of Flames LW Michael Ferland and the season debut for Granlund... Ferland (upper body) left the game late in the second period and did not return after being shaken up after a hit by Volchenkov... Back in the Flames line-up for the first time in a while were RW Devin Setoguchi and RW Brian McGrattan. They had been healthy scratches for the last four and five games respectively.
